Pirastro Viola Strings are manufactured in Germany and represent one of the most comprehensive catalogs in the world, catering to every stylistic need from historically informed baroque performance to modern soloistic power. Known for their “well-engineered” quality, Pirastro strings are categorized by their core materials: traditional gut, high-performance synthetic, and long-lasting steel.

Popular Pirastro Series:

  • Evah Pirazzi & Evah Pirazzi Gold: The industry standard for soloists. Standard Evahs provide a brilliant, powerful, and wide-ranging sound, while the Gold series offers a more refined, warm, and sophisticated tone with a “golden” glow.
  • Perpetual: The latest innovation from Pirastro, designed for maximum volume and carrying power. These strings offer a precisely focused projection and the fastest break-in time of any high-end Pirastro synthetic set.
  • Obligato: Built on a multi-filament synthetic core, these strings are engineered to sound as close to gut as possible. They provide a warm, rich, and “silky” tone, making them the perfect choice for instruments that are naturally a bit bright.
  • Passione: A modern gut string designed for stability. Passione offers the complex, colorful sound of sheep gut but with a significantly reduced break-in time and improved pitch stability compared to traditional gut.
  • Tonica: A high-quality, reliable synthetic set that offers a well-balanced sound with a very easy response. It is a favorite among advancing students for its “all-around” performance and great value.

Evah Pirazzi viola strings synthetic/composite core and tend to be a little brighter and responsive to Pirastro’s Obligato strings. The EP’s come in three gauges: Weich (or light), Medium or Heavy.

Evah Pirazzi Gold viola strings offer a refined, powerful sound with a sophisticated synthetic core that balances brilliance with a golden, full-bodied warmth.

Perpetual viola strings are the newest addition. Very projecting (full volume) with clarity and focus. Only coming in medium gauge.

Obligato strings have a synthetic core (that will mimic gut), but without all the hassles of gut.
