Olive Gut Core Viola Strings

The Pirastro Olive Viola strings are popular among the most discerning players. We offer two distinct sets:  Non-stiff or Stiff. After some trial and error, players know which particular core stiffness and gauge will work best on their viola and the style by which they play. Olive viola strings are made with the wrapped (aluminum) around a deluxe gut core. Some players mix and match these strings all together. The C string is also a popular choice where more response is needed, with the added warmth that the Olive strings bring.

There are many choices here. The Olive D, G and C strings come in Stiff or Non-Stiff and in various gauges and tensions. The A strings come in 3 gauges, 13.5, 13.75 (which is medium) and 14.

For those looking for medium gauge, we underline medium. Also, we offer the special C tungsten string called Eudoxa-Olive and the special D Olive in Silver towards the bottom of the page.

Special note about delivery times on these gut strings: In our dedication to only supply and offer the freshest gut strings, we do not keep huge stocks on these on our inventory shelves.  We try to keep just enough to quickly turnaround and ship orders as per the usual supply and demand, but occasionally customers are asked to wait a few additional day(s) for us to re-supply.  An explanation: While all steel and synthetic strings have very little decay (next to zero), gut strings have a definite shelf life.  Please keep in mind that our strings are fresh, but sometimes an order might take an additional 2-3 days longer than usual.

One last note about ordering a complete set:  We've found from our experience working with many professional violists that those of which like playing the viola Olives, rather than piece them together with different gauges or even other brands, it's best to order the balanced medium set that we show in the last order line, OL-009.  The strings and the viola seem more balanced and more even response from the instrument.
